Fundamentals of Firefighting

This program is designed to be the initial step in firefighter training for the student considering a career in fire service or currently working as a paid or volunteer firefighter. It introduces the student to the fundamentals of firefighting and operating safely and effectively at an incident.  The program teaches the knowledge and skills needed to become a basic firefighter, training to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications.   Subjects include: fire behavior, fire extinguishers, personal protective equipment, SCBA, ladders, fire hose, fire streams, search and rescue, interior fire attack, and self-survival.  The course requires hands-on practical skills that will take place at the Bluffton Township Fire District Training Facility.

* NOTE:  THIS PROGRAM IS COMPLETED IN ONE SEMESTER.
